NAME: Silentpaw (Whitekit --> Silentpaw) GENDER: She-cat AGE: 6 moons CLAN: RiverClan POSITION: Apprentice
APPEARANCE:
PELT COLOR: Silentpaw isn’t pure white, though for the most part she would seem to be. Her belly, tail, and ears all have small flecks of gray on them. These flecks are faint and already hard to see even if they were in easily seeable spots. As it is, she looks pure white to quite a most cats, and even those who do know she isn’t don’t really care that much. It isn’t such a big deal among cats if someone is exactly white or not. PELT LENGTH: Silentpaw has rather long fur. It gets heavy in water, but she is quite used to it and thinks she could figure how to swim anyway, even though she prefers to stay dry. Most of the time she doesn’t have a problem with it, as it doesn’t exactly snag much and it isn’t too heavy. It acts as a bonus for keeping her warm, and Silentpaw doesn’t usually get to hot in summer. She gets slightly cold in winter, but her coat fills in pretty fast so it’s never to big of a problem for her. She might find issues in terrain with water that weigh her down and stay soaked, or in thorny terrain that would snag her fur. That’s the only time Silentpaw would ever have issues really. She tries to stay out of these kinds of places because she knows they could present a problem. MARKINGS: Silentpaw has no particularly distinct markings anywhere on her pelt, unless you count bits of gray as markings, or even being white as a marking. EYE COLOR: Her eyes are an odd dark brown color that can be hard to see in to much dark or light. BUILD: She’s a rather small cat, and not to likely to get a whole lot bigger. Silentpaw is just a small cat, not necessarily a runt, but still smaller than other cats. Her short legs severely lower her speed, but she has good balance. Her body is sturdy and compact, and Silentpaw is actually pretty strong. She not only shows an interest in fighting but could do quite well at it. She’s small but strong, so someone might underestimate her, and she doesn’t fall too often, and could take a blow and remain standing because she’s good at shifting her weight. Silentpaw often lands well too. She has problems on slippery surfaces sometimes because she doesn't practice in places like those to much, and doesn't enjoy the bog much. OTHER: Never, ever, ever comment to Silentpaw about the fact she has never spoken a word in her life. She hates getting attention this way, because mostly everyone is wondering what is wrong with her that she can’t speak. Silentpaw has no idea what is wrong with her, but she knows that the rest of the Clan seems to care a whole lot more than her. Since it doesn’t really impair seem it would impair training, Silentpaw had always hoped no one would see it as a problem. When she got her apprentice name as Silentpaw instead of Whitepaw, she knew the rest of the Clan still cared, and she hated it. Most of them tend to avoid her because as a kit she got really good at fighting, mostly because she used to attack everyone who commented on her disability. After a while, and a lot of scolding, she tried to ignore it. It doesn’t always work out for her, and if you sound particularly mean she might try to rip your head off. If you aren’t good with words, just don’t mention it to her, she doesn’t want to here it, and she’s already heard whatever you say. The only time she’s ever spoken was in dreams, and that doesn’t particularly count.
Perhaps someone feels sorry for the fact she can’t speak, for Silentpaw has instead been granted great sight, smell, and hearing. She can see exceptionally far and misses few things in a landscape. She can sniff out most scents unless their heavily disguised, and can smell prey from a while away, and can find staler scent marks than other cats can. Her ears are often pricked, listening to all the sounds. In a silent place without the hubbub of many cats talking, Silentpaw doesn’t miss a thing, and would hear a bird in flight, the wind rustling, or a mouse pattering across the floor better than some other cats. She has not been left without compensation for her loss. These talents are partially wasted because she can’t express what she has found and sign language doesn’t go to well for her. There are some things you really need words to communicate.
STRENGTHS:
She has a sturdy and compact body that gives her a great deal of strength, and she also has good balance. Silentpaw is small yet strong, and good at fighting others, which she enjoys doing as well. She doesn’t trip up often and can also swim okay if she tries, even though she probably prefers to just fish than actually swim. It takes her a while to dry out her fur, so she finds it nicer to avoid getting wet if she can. Silentpaw knows how to use her strength against others and how to keep from falling down, so she is sturdy, strong, and with good balance. WEAKNESSES:
She has short legs that cut down on her speed. Silentpaw could never keep up in a sprint, and she doesn’t even like running long distance since she tires quite easily. She is also not as agile as other cats her size and age, because she is heavier than them and more built to fight others than to actually avoid their attacks. She is also rather slippery on extremely wet surfaces, and her weight can cause her to slide around a bit, so she tries to stay away from really wet places. Silentpaw knows her weaknesses for the most part and tries to avoid forcing herself to use those kinds of things rather than her strengths.
PERSONALITY:
POSITIVES:
- A very loyal cat that would, under most circumstances, die for her Clan even if she doesn’t always like them or get along with them.
- Quiet, at least vocally although she wishes she weren’t, so she can’t really interrupt someone talking unless she stamps her feet or bowls them over.
- Knows how the warrior code is supposed to work, and always wants to abide by it. She hates any cat that doesn’t follow it.
- She doesn’t mind not having friends and doesn’t demand attention from anyone, in fact she likes getting away from them all.
- Very determined, sometimes even to a stubborn point, and always wanting to try her hardest and prove herself to the Clan.
NEGATIVES:
- Very, very, very mean and grumpy and not easy to like in general. Silentpaw pretty much hates everybody and wishes they would all leave her alone.
- Doesn’t like giving pity, to anyone at all. If they are mean to her, she feels like they totally deserve her getting mad at them or even them getting in trouble, even if what they did wasn’t that bad.
- If she could talk, she would be very snappish. You can still see in her face how mad Silentpaw tends to be at just about everyone. There isn’t really everyone that she bonds with.
- Actually likes having everyone avoid her, and can be quite mean in the hopes that everyone will leave her alone.
- Will get in fights even if it is unnecessary.
- Doesn’t always want to obey orders, especially if she is really mad at someone, and might disobey someone and forget that she likes following the warrior code.
- Really stubborn about getting her own way, and will do a lot to get things to be the way she wants them to be.
LIKES:
- Fighting in any shape or form. It is the one thing she really, really, likes to do, even if it is unnecessary.
- Anyone that doesn’t think the fact she is mute is weird or bad is someone Silentpaw might actually get along with.
- She especially likes fighting anyone that has a dumb question they ask, usually just asking her a question is bad enough for her, since she obviously can’t answer back.
- Being alone is one of her favorite things to do, since that means there is no one around to see her.
- Especially enjoys doing her training well so everyone thinks she’s doing better and doesn’t need everyone to act like she needs something from them.
DISLIKES:
- Hates being told, or even trying, to hold back her anger against someone, since she tends to find a way to justify it.
- Any cat that talks to much is a cat that needs to be told talking is unhealthy, at least Silentpaw thinks so.
- She has nightmares sometimes, and really hates them because they might happen in real life someday.
- Most everyone in the Clan is someone she does not like being around in the least.
- Stupid questions are one thing Silentpaw seriously hates, since everyone always seems to be asking them. She wishes she could force them to stop.
Fears:
One thing she really fears is that the Clan will think she really is lame and make her be a medicine cat apprentice. Silentpaw knows that she is fully capable of being a warrior, and the rest of the Clan probably knows that too, but she is afraid that they won’t. She has absolutely no interest in it, and she will probably never have to worry about it, but Silentpaw still fears that someone might suggest she would do better if she wasn’t training to be a warrior. Silentpaw doesn’t believe this in the least and is pretty sure that she can finish her training just like anyone else.
Her other fear, once she is sure she will be a warrior, is that her warrior name will be something like Nosayer or Silentsayer. Simply the change from Whitekit to Silentpaw tells her that the Clan thinks something about her being mute, and she is afraid they will take it so far as the give her a name like that. Silentpaw hates the idea, and isn’t even usre she would want to stay with RiverClan if they did something like that to her.
She is also afraid that she’ll get killed in some way before she proves she can be just as useful as someone else in the Clan. Silentpaw plans to prove that there is no difference in being a regular cat and being mute except that you can’t talk. there might be some downsides to it, but she doesn’t figure it’s all that bad, and hopes that one day she can prove that to the rest of the RiverClan, and she doesn’t want to be killed before she does so.
Habits:
She often practices fighting on her own, if her mentor won’t teach her then she’ll watch someone else or just practice what she has learned before. Silentpaw wants to be really good at fighting, and if no one is going to teach her, she will teach herself. She always tries to find time to practice her fighting skills, and welcomes any help that she can get, event though she wouldn’t actually ask someone for help, so it isn’t really welcoming it. She would more likely just spy on you and then practice.
Goals:
Her only goal in life is to prove that is she is useful. Silentpaw wouldn’t’ mind being deputy or leader, but she doubts it would ever happen, and just really wants to prove her use to the Clan. She is very young and angry at everyone, and would like to somehow prove that if everyone could believe in her, maybe she could help everyone out better. She doesn’t want pity from everyone, she just wants to prove her use to them all.
Dreams:
She often dreams about being a mute leader, which would totally prove that she can be helpful to the Clan. Silentpaw doubts it will ever happen, but she still likes to imagine how she would run the Clan if she couldn’t talk to everyone anyway. She sometimes wonders if StarClan would name her Silentstar or Whitestar, and knows that she would prefer Whitestar, since she has always liked the name better.
Secrets:
She has plenty of secrets that she keeps because she can’t tell anyone. None of them are really extreme at all. She keeps her feelings about everyone to herself sometimes, but other time she kin of shows you how she feels through her expressions, and sometimes you can feel the hate coming off of her in waves.
RELATIONSHIPS:
MOTHER: Littletooth – A black cat with bits of white to her that is rather kind for the most part, and always tried to be supportive of her daughter, even though Silentpaw pushed away from her after she started giving lectures of how bad fighting is. FATHER: Thorntail – A brown and black tom that didn’t like having a mute daughter much. He tended to be displeased over her aggressive behavior and loved lecturing her on the importance of Clan loyalty and not fighting your Clanmates, and especially your siblings. SIBLINGS: Leopardpaw – A yellow and black tom that doesn’t get along with Silentpaw, although he gets along with his brother just fine. Mosspaw – A brown tom that likes hanging with his brother, but thinks Silentpaw is plain weird and tries to avoid her. MENTOR: Needs one CRUSH/MATE: None
HISTORY:
I remember, quite clearly, my mother, Littletooth, trying to teach me to speak. My brothers Mosskit and Leopardkit had already started chatting up a storm at this point. They couldn’t speak completely right, but they talked nonstop and that was how they got better. It greatly annoyed me. Part of that might have been because, try as I might, I couldn’t get a word out of my mouth. I could get sound out, sort of, but it was just a garble, like something you might say in the back of your throat so no one could understand it. I couldn’t even start to talk when the others had gotten all their words right. Littletooth and Thorntail, my father, eventually had to give up and agreed, probably silently, that I had no hope, I was mute. I know it doesn’t happen a whole lot. Wind of it reached the other kits in the den including these other two sisters Flowerkit and Runningkit that were older than us. Sometimes I would find them and my brothers staring at me, and sometimes they asked what my problem was and why I wasn’t speaking.
Obviously, I couldn’t tell them, but they would keep asking and I would hate it, so then I would attack them, just try to scratch and bit every bit of them. I got long speeches on how the Clan fits together and how they’re my friends/siblings and it’s bad to fight them like that, etc. We had, by this point, reached the age where we started play fighting, but I usually got rougher than that. Sometimes I watched the apprentices and would try to learn something by testing it out. Never actually learned a thing, though I did attack them in impressive ways that send them off squealing. I might have been small, and I might have been mute, but I was definitely no pushover. I never felt pity for them either. They deserved it if they were going to look at me like that, and ask stupid questions they know I couldn’t answer. They weren’t that stupid, they knew I couldn’t answer. I think they probably did it on purpose, to get me to fight them, and it worked. I eventually tried to calm down, and got pretty good at not showing my anger, but it doesn’t always work out for me. I never got praise for holding the anger back, but I did get scolded every time I fought, and memorized those speeches since they said them so often. Someone would come and call my name, and I knew I was in for another boring speech I knew nearly word for word.
I can’t say I particularly looked forward to being an apprentice, because the same cats would be there. They might think themselves above asking stupid questions, and they might not. I really couldn’t know, but I doubted they would stop looking at me like that. The Clan knew I could take care of myself, and since I always had that evil look in my eye, they didn’t try to make my life easier. How was I going to learn if they went soft on me anyway? I wasn’t, so I made sure no one thought I needed soft stuff. Still, it’s hard to not be excited on the day you get your apprentice name. I was sort of looking forward to being called Whitepaw. Littletooth wouldn’t be there to scold me, and I would have an excuse for using real moves: I was practicing.
Naturally, I went up to the leader on the day we got our names with Mosskit and Leopardkit. The leader called them first called them Mosspaw, Leopardpaw, gave mentors, ect. Then it was my turn. I was sort of excited, at the moment, anyway. I looked around at the Clan without my usual glare, for one anyway. Then I heard the leader start talking. I sort of listened, but didn’t pay much attention till I heard them calling my apprentice name: Silentpaw! I was quite ready at that point to just get up and leave from the humiliation, but I bore it. I really should have expected it, I know, but I hated that name. It meant my warrior name would be Silentsayer or something like that, something about the fact I was mute, which wasn’t even my fault. I barely paid attention to who was my mentor, and didn’t really know who I was touching noses with. They were calling out names, but I wasn’t listening to that much either. This was changing my life, irrevocable, and I hated it.
OTHER:
(So I remember) Mean to everyone, doesn’t really like anyone, probably hates her mentor, gets in fights with everyone.
