NAME: Silentfall GENDER: Tom; Male AGE: 43 Moons CLAN: ThunderClan POSITION: Warrior
APPEARANCE:
PELT COLOR: His pelt is a pale ginger color, although it can be mistaken for brown in some instances. PELT LENGTH: His fur is of medium length; he's mainly a shorthair, but his neck fur and belly fur is slightly longer. MARKINGS: Being a tabby and not a solid color, Silentfall has brown stripes that etch across his face, back, and tail. Faint, ginger stripes can be seen on his legs. EYE COLOR: His eyes are a rich, hazel color. BUILD: His build is firm, but it isn't necessarily 'bulky'. He has a medium stature - neither intimidating nor weak-looking. OTHER: Silentfall has a singular, small scar on his nose, but other than that he's pretty clean in the scratches and blemishes department.
STRENGTHS:
Silentfall has great climbing skills; he can scale trees in the blink of an eye, and he is very happy to have that sort of gift. His claws are small, but their sharp, so he's often clinging to branches or honing his ability to jump from nearby tree to nearby tree. Climbing is almost his hobby, and he often makes himself more than useful by catching the fattest squirrels and birds while up high. If the Clan needs him for anything, it's for scaling things and getting the best of the spoils.
Another strength (although not as great as the first) is that he has impeccable fangs. They are quite useful in battle - one flash of them and a younger, inexperienced cat might think twice. When looking at Silentfall, one wouldn't expect anything scary or battle-worthy; this is where he likes to prove cats wrong. WEAKNESSES:
To his chagrin, he has many small weaknesses, but there are two that prevail: his running speed and fighting ability.
High above the ground, Silentfall is as swift as a lark in the air, but when on the ground he is as clumsy as a ground-squirrel. The fact is embarrassing to him, to which is why he always lingers above in the canopies. But, when he has to hunt or pad through the leaf litter or foliage, Silentfall will look like an irate fool. He often stumbles on tangled up plants and branches, which frustrates him. On top of that, he cannot - he can run, but he can't very fast. His ground-prey always escapes him, and he can never catch a retreating enemy or cat.
When it comes to fighting, he may have the experience and fangs, but he doesn't have the stamina. This goes back to running, but he doesn't really have the speed necessary to capture an opponent and have them begging for mercy. His only tactic is to intimidate using his teeth, but if that fails, he has to pray to StarClan and hope that he won't humiliate himself. Don't get him wrong, though; he will fight for his Clan without a quarrel, but he will be slightly reluctant. He is a very self-conscious warrior.
PERSONALITY:
POSITIVES:
- He is quite docile, making him a pleasurable warrior to have in presence.
- Optimism is probably his best trait, although sometimes it is half-hearted.
- Silentfall is always careful; he's the exact opposite of someone that is rash.
- His romanticism works wonders; yes, believe it or not, he's a secret romantic.
- He has the uncanny quirk of sensitivity. Not in the manner of emotion, but respect.
- The warrior learned how to channel his anger a while ago. He is a peaceful soul to others.
- He does like company, and he can be quite the socialite when he chooses to be.
NEGATIVES:
- He has the tendency to be self-conscious at all times.
- Silentfall can get very angry at himself sometimes - viciously so.
- While he may not vent outwards, he keeps it inside, making him emotional.
- He isn't a cat of actions, but of words... Which proves to be bad in some cases.
- Unbeknownst to others, he can be quite lustful in his pursuit for love.
- He often tries to be something that he's not when pressured.
- Although he can join discussions and such, he is truly shy.
LIKES:
- Silentfall simply adores kits, and he'll often spend his leisure time playing with them when their mothers allow it.
- Not to be sinful, but this warrior loves the attention of a pretty she-cat the most.
- He (of course) loves to climb; heights empower him and make him feel at home.
- His favorite meal would be of thrush. He enjoys the taste, simple as that.
- Although it has nothing to do with being up high, he has a soft spot for the lake for mixed reasons.
- Silentfall loves a good joke, although he can't tell them himself.
DISLIKES:
- He doesn't appreciate cats with too much vigor; they, to be honest, annoy him.
- Silentfall isn't strict/obsessive on the warrior code, so he will become flustered when another cat preaches it like a mantra.
- He loathes it when a cat isn't honest or is rude.
- With an appreciation for nature, he dislikes it when others aren't respectful towards it.
- The warrior really doesn't like bragging.
- He has a slight hate of ShadowClan... he isn't biassed; he just doesn't like what he sees from it.
Fears:
Silentfall will often have nightmares about times when he needs to escape something, but he can't run, or even move during the dream. He once asked for solace from the elders as an apprentice, and they told him that it was only natural - all cats had those dreams. They still haunt him though, for since he is a slow runner already, he fears that one day he won't be able to move.
Another fear would be his slight fear of rejection. It isn't major, but it does make him wary to form a relationship (whether it just be friendly or otherwise). Of course, this branches from his most wretched quality: his insecurity. Silentfall doesn't wish to be so unsure of himself, but it comes naturally. He doesn't have the loudest voice or the most outward personality; he can't be forthright and expect the best of others and himself.
Habits:
He checks himself often. If there is a silence after he speaks, he'll avert his gaze and try to take back what he said or apologize, even if it didn't need it. He'll also follow what others do religiously. He rarely makes the first move, and nor does he follow suit unless absolutely certain of the outcome. Basically, he minds himself in a way that is almost painstakingly obvious.
Another habit would be the facade he likes to put up when all things fail. If he's embarrassed in battle, he'll pretend to shake it off and look gruff. If he's nervous or feeling awkward, he'll hide it behind an emotion or attentiveness. He tries to look strong, but he isn't. Only a cat with a big heart and a lot of patience can break through his shell and see the true being underneath, although if one were to ask him, there wouldn't be much there.
Goals:
Silentfall has three main goals. They are quite important to him, but he doesn't hold much faith in them being achieved. They are: finding a mate, improving his running speed, and becoming tougher in personality.
Being the somewhat-awkward flirt he is, the ThunderClan warrior likes spending his time around willing and caring she-cats that will listen to him and enjoy his company. He never really makes passes at them, but he will compliment them openly if he can work up the courage or if the she-cat is especially nice. Also, with his love for kits, he really wants to find a loving partner and have a family. Silentfall isn't particular, because he finds beauty and perfection in most of the female-feline persuasion. He knows what he would do though if he found someone compatible: he'd court, then hopefully capture. The tom doesn't hold much faith in his charms though. After all, who wants a slow, emotional warrior as a lover?
As a warrior and defender of ThunderClan, Silentfall knows he must round his capabilities if he hopes to be a full asset to his Clan. With that, he is fully aware that he must improve his running speed. He would practice, be he's afraid that he would be interrupted by his fellow clanmates and get humiliated. To make up for that, an inquisitive cat could venture to the lakeshore and spot him trotting through the shallows in deep concentration. That's where he trains himself on off-days, but he rarely can.
His last goal would be to boost his self esteem and toughen up. Silentfall is exactly proud of the fact that he gets depressed or emotionally effected by the 'trivial' things. He hopes to hone his confidence with she-cats, kits, and their mothers (because he likes to make small-talk with the queens when he plays with their offspring), so he can eventually get the courage to seek a mate and gain social status in ThunderClan. The tom knows it's a hard goal, but he hopes to reach it.
Dreams:
Silentfall doesn't have many, but there is a single dream that he has often and wishes would perhaps come true if by some strange and irregular circumstance. Although it is a fantasy, he really wishes to know how to swim. He knows that ThunderClan cats shouldn't really be fancying getting their paws wet, but he likes the idea of learning the skill and finds it quite useful. For this reason he somewhat envies the RiverClan breed for their uncanny ability to swim in water like a bird flying in the sky.
Secrets:
Because he is so quiet and reserved, one would think that Silentfall has a lot hidden behind his impassive expression. Quite the contrary! He is a very simple tom with very basic needs and wants. He doesn't engage in dark or questionable activities, so he has no delicious secrets to kept hidden from the public eye. The only thing one could truly accuse him of was eyeing the she-cats in other Clans - but that isn't hidden! The warrior really is a polite, gentle, and pensive soul. He wouldn't meander about doing things obscene. Although, of course, with his lack of responsibility to the warrior code, a close friend who knew him well wouldn't put it past him to develop something that is indeed worthy of being a secret! Of course, being self-conscious, it would be very hard for Silentfall to stray off from the 'right' path without always thinking of the repercussions.
RELATIONSHIPS:
MOTHER: Larkflight - A gentle and wise she-cat who had a lot to offer. Her pelt was a light gray with white patches. She also had hazel eyes. [deceased] FATHER: Stoneclaw - Docile and light-hearted like his son; Stoneclaw was a ginger tom with dark blue-gray eyes. [deceased] SIBLINGS: None MENTOR: Laurelbreath - A white she-cat with calico markings on her ears and tail. She had green eyes. Silentfall always remembered her as a very kind and nurturing character. [deceased] CRUSH/MATE: None | N/A OTHER: He has a cousin in another Clan, he was told. He does not know her name, but he is always curiously eyeing cats at the gathering wondering if one of the she-cats he sees is maybe her.
HISTORY:
Although Silentfall doesn't remember any of it, and even though he was only told of it once, he was born in a snowstorm. He had been birthed prematurely along with two other brothers who died immediately in the cold before they could even breathe their first breath. His mother, Larkflight, had wandered out into the night without telling anyone and gave life to her one surviving kit. She was found alone with Silentfell curled against her side. The queen had buried her dead offspring in the snow, having named them Snowkit and Icekit. In reflection, Silentfall always saw these names as his mother's sadness deciding to use irony to name kits whose lives had been taken in the cold - Silentfell was different. Stoneclaw, his father, told him once that he had been named Silentkit because of his silence when he was born. In fact, as he had been told, he had not spoken for most of his kithood. It scared his mother infinitely. The queen had come to the conclusion that her remaining son had his vocal cords frozen that night; not quite, but the conditions during his birth did have consequences. The cold and early birth had muted him, and he was to only be able to speak when he was ten moons old.
While he had been fretted over by his two doting parents, he had become a timid creature. For a time, he only recognized his mother and father. It didn't help that there weren't any other kits in the nursery at the time; he had a very small world. It was only until that he could spit out words and became an apprentice that he had to sharply take in information about the outside world, but it wasn't as painful or hard as it was made out to be. His mentor, Laurelbreath, was kind to him. She dealt with the insecure and shy nature that seemed to come with the apprentice, and she even gave him some of the more pleasant and friendly qualities he has later in life. Case in point, when he was thirteen moons old, Laurelbreath had taken him out to hunt with another mentor and his charge. She quickly learned of his troubles with running and catching prey, and it became evident to Silentfell then as well. The tom had been devastated, especially since his failure had taken place in front of a fellow apprentice and warrior. Laurelbreath had consoled him later and promised to help him with hunting later on. She also tested his other abilities. She learned that he could climb expertly and proved to be an amazing hunter in the canopies. As his fangs grew in, she took note of his increase in size and weaponry. Seasons came and went, and Silentfell was made into a warrior.
Silentfell's ever-present parents wanted to postpone the ceremony because of his lack of skill in speed and hunting, but Laurelbreath urged his passage into warrior-hood (to Stoneclaw's and Larkflight's chagrin). The ThunderClan tom was given the name Silentfell because of how he could silently descend and ascend trees. He sat a peaceful vigil, and he had a calm beginning to the new position in his Clan. Shortly after though, he began growing an interest in she-cats. Of course, he had noticed them before as an apprentice, but his vigilance during training didn't allow any distractions - as a warrior, he had plenty of time to look. He grew an 'interest', and he developed romantic and flirtatious behavior, although his already established personality hindered his growth into something more... interesting. During this time period, his mother and father peacefully passed away due to old age, but his mentor passed due to sickness. He mourned the three of them in turn, but moved on. He now lives in relative content. Although he still frustrates himself over his physical and emotional limitations, he continues.
OTHER:
(For `Fahrenheit!'s benefit.)
Summary: Silentfall is basically a normal, ThunderClan tom, but he is dangerously self-conscious. He tries to look brave and confident on the outside, but he is constantly berating himself on the inside.
